Assam: Former Hill Area Development (HAD) minister Sum Ronghang passes away at 61

As per sources, the cause of his death was due to multiple organ failure.
Former Hill Areas Development minister and the former Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Sum Ronghang passed away on Friday at the age of 61 years.
He breathed his last at around 4 pm today at Health City Hospital, Khanapara in Guwahati.
Ronghang had been ill for a long time.
As per sources, the cause of his death was due to multiple organ failure.
Sum Ronghang was an influential leader in the three hill districts of Assam- Dima Hasao , Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
Ronghang started his political career from Langpher’s council constituency.
Sum Ronghang was the former minister of Hill Areas Development and Mines and Minerals in the former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet in 2018- 2021.
Ronghang was elected in the Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Diphu constituency with a total of total 64421 votes. He contested the elections with aticket from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Later in 2021, Sum Ronghang contested the Assembly elections from Diphu constituency with a ticket from Indian National Congress, but was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Bidya Sing Engleng. He lost by 40528 votes.
Ronghang was also the former president of Karbi Anglong district Congress.
Ronghang received the B R Ambedkar Award for social service.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Dr Tuliram Ronghang expressed grief over the loss of an influential leader.
