Within days of a petrol bomb being hurled at the residence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, three petrol bombs were hurled early Wednesday morning at three different locations of Shillong.
One petrol bomb was hurled at the office of the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) in Shillong and two bombs were hurled at the Shillong Sadar police station and Rynjah police station, police sources said.
No damage to property or injury has been reported.
CCTV footage at the MGCC office showed the petrol bomb missed the parked vehicles by a whisker.
According to an eyewitness account, two bike-borne miscreants hurled the bomb at the MGCC office and fled from the scene.
On April 26, a petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of DCM Dhar. The bomb had landed at Dhar’s balcony. No one was injured in the attack.
Post the incident, Meghalaya Police had stepped up the vigilance and beefed up security in and around Shillong.
Just a day before on April 25, a petrol bomb was hurled at a police vehicle that was escorting NEEPCO Director (Personnel) Major General (retired) RK Jha in Shillong.
On April 3, a petrol bomb was hurled at the Mawlai Police Station damaging a police vehicle parked in the premises of the Police Station.
These frequent incidents of crime and rise in the number of incidents of petrol bombs being hurled is becoming a cause of concern and is raising questions about the law and order and security situation in the state. People are also questioning if the Meghalaya government and police administration in the state are going soft on people behind these incidents.
