No load shedding plans yet: Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal

First Published: 29th April, 2024 20:27 IST

“As of now we have not gone for any load shedding, we are working towards ensuring that we do not have to opt for load shedding,” Power Minister AT Mondal

Amid rising temperatures and many fearing a repeat of last year’s power cuts in the state, Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal today said that the government is working towards ensuring uninterrupted power throughout the summer months and that it does not have to opt for load shedding, much to the relief of the masses.

Mondal told newspersons, “Last year we tried to regulate the load shedding. This year, we had already prepared a plan on how we will go about as far as supply and demand is concerned. Till now we are managing. As of now we have not gone for any load shedding. We are working to see that as far as possible we will not go for load shedding. Our first target was to see that this time all the Board Examinations should pass without any power disruption. We are happy to say that we have done that. Second thing which was decided is that elections must also see that there is no load shedding, and we have completed that also.”

“Last year by this time, we were having load shedding for 7 hours in the urban areas and almost 9 hours in rural areas. This year till now we have not gone for any such scheduled load shedding,” the minister said.

The Meghalaya Power Minister, however, said that everything depends on the rainfall which according to him is delayed this year. He said that efforts are being made to deal with any eventuality.

“The mandate from our Chief Minister is that we have to provide uninterrupted power supply. We are working on those lines,” minister Mondal said.
