Lok Sabha Polls- Tripura: BSF steps up vigil along India, Bangladesh border

Elaborate security arrangements are in place to ensure free and fair voting, as the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency is going for the polls in the second phase tomorrow.

In view of this, the Tripura BSF is conducting special operations and patrolling in East Tripura’s Khowai district which shares more than 400 km international border with Bangladesh.

In addition to the daily routine exercise in manning the border, the BSF has taken special initiative to ensure no intruder from the other side can enter and disturb the polling process.

Moreover, the BSF is also encouraging and creating awareness along with creating confidence among the voters so that they come out in large number and cast their mandate.

Tripura shares over 856 km border with Bangladesh.

Suraj Singh, Commandant BSF 119 battalion speaking to Northeast Live said, “BSF is committed toward keeping the borders safe and secure in every way, so that people living in the border areas, they feel safe and confident to exercise their franchise and take part in the polling process without any fear. We have made security arrangements in the border areas with coordination of the local police also. BSF is carrying out patrolling not only along the border but in the depth areas also so that there is no hindrance towards free poll and polling takes place in a peaceful manner.”

As many as 13,96,761 eligible voters, comprising 7,02,511 males, 6,94,237 females, and 13 transgender people, are expected to cast their votes at 1,664 polling centres in the Tripura East constituency.
