Drugs, liquor, cash worth over Rs 18 lakh seized in Meghalaya after Model Code of Conduct came into force

Drugs, liquor, freebies, precious metals and cash worth more than Rs 18 lakh have been seized in Meghalaya since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force in the state on March 16 for the ensuing Lok Sabha election, 2024.

The seizures were made by the state police from March 16 to 31, 2024.

Since the implementation of the MCC, cash worth over Rs 18.92 lakh, liquor worth over Rs 28 lakh, drugs worth over Rs 13 lakh, Freebies worth Rs 4,865 and other items.

Meghalaya has two Parliamentary seats – Shillong and Tura.

The voting for the Lok Sabha election for the two parliamentary seats in Meghalaya is scheduled for April 19th.
