LS Polls-Manipur: BJP fields Th Basanta Kumar Singh from Manipur (Inner) parliamentary seat

The BJP today announced Manipur Education and Law Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh as it’s candidate for the Manipur (Inner) Lok Sabha seat. Northeast Live was first to report this yesterday.
Basanta Kumar Singh will be contesting against Congress candidate Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Basanta Kumar Singh was elected to the Assembly in the 2022 elections from Nambol constituency in Bishnupur district.
CM N Biren Singh and other senior leaders of the party rushed to the party headquarter after the central leadership announced the name of Th Basanta Kumar Singh as the party’s official candidate for the Manipur (Inner) Lok Sabha seat.
While affirming that the NPF is a key constituent of the BJP-led NDA, CM N Biren Singh is confident that the BJP will have no rivals in the Manipur (Inner) seat.
Speaking to media, CM N Biren Singh said, “Our party, our alliance is contesting in the Outer constituency, NPF is our partner and in the Inner seat no competitor will come. BJP will definitely win with thumping majority.”
After filing his nomination, Basanta Kumar said, “My idea of Manipur is to remain united, Manipur remains as a whole, Manipur does not get divided under any circumstances and we will fight for it with our life until we die. My first priority will be that the internally displaced persons (IDP)s will go back to their original places, resettle them and give maximum help from the state as well as the Centre, our CM (N Biren Singh) is also working very hard towards that, the government is working very hard towards that.”
Exuding confidence that Narendra Modi will get a 3rd term as the Prime Minister, Basanta Kumar said, “We are coming to power in the Centre and Manipur needs the central support to become a developed state. I would request everyone to please support the BJP in the upcoming elections.”
Voting for the Inner Manipur seat will take place on April 19 and for the Outer Manipur seat voting will be held on April 26, the second phase of the LS elections 2024. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
