Strong North-Westerlies hits Tripura: 4 fishermen dead

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed shock over the death of fishermen in Dumboor lake.

In a tragic incident 4 fishermen were killed after the makeshift platform that they took shelter in overturned in the Dumboor lake in Tripura’s Dhalai district which was hit by strong Northwester winds.
Three bodies have been recovered so far, and the search for the 4th is underway.

An official from the Dhalai district administration said that fishermen often stay in the makeshift mancha or platform to carry out fishing in the Dumboor lake.

The SDRF and NDRF personnel are carrying out the search operations.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed grief over the death of the fishermen.

Taking to X, CM Saha wrote, “I have come to know about an unfortunate incident of four fishermen missing due to cyclone in Dambur reservoir. It has already been possible to recover the body of one of them under the supervision of the administration and the search for the remaining three is on. The state government stands by their families in this difficult situation.”

“I am aware of the extensive damage caused in various parts of the state including Sipahijala district, Dakshin district, Khowai district due to heavy cyclone, rain and hail last night. In this dire situation, the state administration is on the side of the people with utmost importance. The state government will provide assistance to the victims as per natural calamity rules”, Saha tweeted.
