TB alert at NIT Silchar after 5 students diagnosed with the infection

A tuberculosis alert has been issued at NIT Silchar following the detection of at least 5 cases among students even as several others are under observation through tests.
The TB scare in the institute first came to light when a student, a resident of Bangladesh, was diagnosed positive for tuberculosis at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital recently. Following this, a thorough contact tracing initiative was carried out at the NIT campus, under which as many as 47 students were made to undergo IGRA test.
Of these, five tested positive for TB, while two others displayed symptoms.
