"It helps us to identify who we should on and who just change colours in the blink of an eye for personal gains," said Paul Lyngdoh.

Amid reports of United Democratic Party (UDP) leaders in Meghalaya holding meetings with Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister and UDP working president, Paul Lyngdoh said that such actions by political leaders helps the party to “filter and spot reliable party members”.

Speaking to media, Paul Lyngdoh said, “It helps us to filter and see through the characters of each person involved. During parliamentary elections, when people switch sides, you are able to see their true colours. It helps us to identify who we should rely on and who just change colours in the blink of an eye for personal gains.”

According to reports, some UDP leaders from Nongpoh constituency recently had a meeting with Ampareen Lyngdoh who is seeking support for the Lok Sabha elections.

Meghalaya has two Lok Sabha seats– Shillong and Tura.

Congress has fielded Vincent Pala from Shillong and Saleng A Sangma from Tura. TMC has fielded Zenith Sangma from Tura. Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) formed by UDP and HSPDP has fielded Robert June Kharjahrin from the Shillong seat.

Elections for the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya will be held in a single phase on April 19. The results will be declared on June 4, 2024.
