“I am hurt because I was denied a ticket to contest in this election. BJP left me with no other choices,” said Dorjee Wangdi Kharma

After being denied party ticket for the assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh, Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, sitting MLA of BJP from Kalaktang constituency today switched allegiance from the BJP to the National People’s Party (NPP) and sought a ticket to contest the election.

He was supposed to join the NPP yesterday, but for some reason, he could not join the party. He joined the party at the party office in Itanagar this morning in the presence of party Working President P Bage and other leaders.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Dorjee Wangdi Kharma said, “I worked hard for the party and maintained my discipline, but I was still denied a ticket for some reason. I am hurt because I was denied a ticket to contest in this election. BJP left me with no other choice.

I liked the ideology of NPP so decided to join the party. Before joining NPP, I informed my supporters that I had decided to join NPP, and they assured me that they were with me and that I could do whatever I felt was right.”

NPP Working President P Bage said that the party welcomed Dorjee Wangdi Kharma with open arms. Kharma has already sought a ticket to contest the election from his constituency.

Bage further said that 4 more sitting MLAs of BJP are likely to join NPP today. He, however, did not reveal the names of the MLAs.

Earlier, this week, Takku Jerang, an aspiring candidate of the BJP from the Pangin constituency joined Congress in hopes of securing a party ticket after he was denied a ticket to contest the election by BJP.

Yesterday also 6 ticket aspirants–Ramjo Produng,Taja Bonung, Mayu Taring, Nagram Togung, Nobang Burang and Tabe Doni, who were denied party tickets for the ensuing Assembly Elections by the BJP have joined the NPP.

Polling for the 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh will be held on April 19 and results will be declared on June 4.
