SKM MLA Dr M K Sharma resigns, likely to join SDF

M K Sharma tendered his resignation from the SKM party today as a primary member and also from other responsibilities
Khamdong Singtam MLA and former Sikkim Health Minister, Dr M K Sharma has resigned from the ruling SKM party today.
According to sources, Sharma will be joining the SDF on March 21.
In a letter addressed to the SKM party president, M K Sharma tendered his resignation from the SKM party as a primary member and also from other responsibilities.
He also thanked the party for giving him an opportunity to serve and support the people of Sikkim.
M K Sharma is the first MLA from SKM to quit ahead of the election. With his resignation, the party now has 18 MLAs.
Last week, the SDF party announced its candidates for six assembly seats, ahead of the elections to be held on April 19.
Former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling will be contesting from Namchi-Singhithang in a bid to secure a record ninth term as a legislator, they said.
For the three seats in Mangan district, the SDF has nominated former minister Hissey Lachungpa for Lachen-Mangan constituency, while Gnawong Chopel Lepcha and Sonam Gyatso Lepcha will contest from Kabi-Lungchok and Dzongu seats, respectively.
