Meghalaya CM lays base of 3 projects to ease traffic in Shillong and enhance its beauty

At a total project cost of Rs. 90 crore, CM Sangma today laid the foundation stones for three parking projects that can accommodate 465 parking places
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today laid foundation stones of as many as three projects to ensure beautification of Shillong and ease traffic congestion in the city that is a hot tourist destination.
The three major projects are–
- Development of Parking Infrastructure under Shillong Smart City Pvt Ltd
- Beautification of Iewduh Market
- Wards’s Lake Promenade
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the state government is creating more than 1,200 parking spaces in Shillong as part of the Parking Infrastructure Development Project under Shillong Smart City Pvt Ltd.
At a total project cost of Rs. 90 crore, CM Sangma today laid the foundation stones for three parking projects that can accommodate 465 parking places.
The oldest traditional indigenous market-Iewduh Market will be redesigned and transformed at an estimated budget of Rs 15 crore.
The goal of the market’s makeover is to create a more lively, useful, and accessible area that benefits local vendors, consumers, and visitors alike, said CM Sangma.
As part of Wards’s Lake Promenade project, a 1.2 km of stretch opposite the Ward’s Lake will be developed that would include a plaza, shops, vending zones, parking and restaurant.
This infrastructure will enhance tourist experience, stimulate economic growth through local businesses, and serve as social hubs for people to interact, said CM Sangma.
