SDF said that the present SKM government has lost all moral basis on which they continue to stay in power
Following the brutal attack on Former Sikkim Assembly Speaker KN Rai, a 15-member high-level team of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) led by party Chief Pawan Chamling called on Sikkim Governor Lakshman Acharya today and urged the Governor to impose President’s Rule in the state.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor wherein SDF demanded that the mastermind behind the attack on former Assembly Speaker KN Rai be identified and arrested immediately.
The Memorandum also demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming the incompetency of the State police.
The Memorandum also pleaded to the Governor to dismiss the present government under Article 371 of the Indian Constitution and impose President’s Rule in Sikkim until the completion of the polls in the state.
Moreover, the SDF cautioned the Governor that if the demands are not met, the party will launch peaceful satyagraha and civil disobedience.
The Memorandum also mentioned that earlier SDF filed an FIR against SKM Spokesperson cum Political Secretary to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Jacob Khaling alleging him the mastermind of this dastardly attack. It has given a deadline of March 5 for police to arrest him, however, no arrest has been made so far. Therefore it has now requested the Governor to intervene in this matter personally and politically.
It has also demanded the immediate resignation of CM Prem Singh Tamang stating that the present SKM government has lost all moral basis on which they continue to stay in power.
It may be mentioned here that the Citizen Action Party (CAP) and BJP have also demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in the state following the incident of violence.
