The TIPRA Motha leadership today vested the responsibility of finalising the candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat and other election strategies on party founder and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma.

Debbarma chaired a meeting with TIPRA Motha Central Working Committee and Extended Committee in Agartala to discuss party’s strategy and decide on a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The meeting was attended by around 300 party members.

Tripura has two Lok Sabha seats – Tripura East and Tripura West. Both seats are now with the BJP.

BJP has fielded former Tripura chief minister and present Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb from the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, while the candidate for the East constituency, which is reserved for the scheduled tribes, is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, there is no indication of any contact between the TIPRA Motha and the BJP ever since the signing of the Tipra Accord. Also, there was no meeting between DebBarma and Chief Minister Manik Saha.

Meanwhile, Pradyot left for New Delhi today amid speculations of meetings on the modalities for the implementation of the TIPRA accord and discussions on political issues.

Earlier, taking to Facebook, the TIPRA Motha founder said that he had also discussed with the party leaders about the next course of strategy regarding how Tiprasa accord will be implemented in the coming days.

The meeting also discussed various issues regarding how the party can make its movement stronger.

“Held a crucial meeting with leaders today to deliberate about the next course of strategy regarding how Tiprasa accord will be implemented in the days to come. Also discussed various issues regarding how we can make our movement stronger,” Debbarma posted on Facebook.
