The Accord is said to include, to provide political and financial autonomy and to have provisions on tribal land & language rights.
History was created today for the Tiprasas, the indigenous people of Tripura. After years of struggle, the Tiprasa Accord was signed in New Delhi today in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura royal scion and Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Deb Barma, Tripura CM Manik Saha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Tripura MP Biplab Deb and other senior Tipra Motha leaders.
The Accord is said to include, to provide political and financial autonomy and to have provisions on tribal land & language rights.
Earlier, on February 28, Deb Barma reiterated his decision to sit on fast-unto-death at Hatai Kotor in West Tripura in support of the demand for constitutional solutions for the problems of the indigenous people of Tripura.
Within minutes of Tripura’s royal scion and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Deb Barma starting his fast-unto-death, the 45-year old leader left for New Delhi after he got a call from New Delhi for a meeting with the Government of India.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live from Hathai Kotor, the site of his fast-unto-death, Pradyot Deb Barma said, “I have been invited by the Government of India. They have given me the time for a meeting. This is good. I have been called to discuss the issue (Constitutional solution to the Tiprasa demands) I do not want to say anything now, it is too early, unless everything is sealed and done with. Till the time we don’t have it in our hands it is too pre-mature for us to celebrate or say anything.”
Pradyot Deb Barma who has been fighting for the rights of the indigenous people of Tripura (Tiprasas) had threatened to fast unto death on February 24.
