Manipur CM N Biren Singh chaired a crucial meeting with Manipur Police officers in Imphal on Wednesday in a bid to address the grievances of the state security personnel who had launched a strike.

The meeting comes after police commandos from as many as 4 valley districts and the border town of Moreh laid down their arms in protest against the assault on Imphal West Additional Superintendent of Police, Amit Moirangthem whose residence was also attacked by armed men on Tuesday night.

Not only Additional SP Amit Moirangthem, but as per sources, an OC from Imphal West identified as P Achouba was also assaulted by unidentified men.

Police commandos from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur staged an ‘arms down’ as a mark of protest and widespread anger against the incident. Scores of Manipur police commandos were seen putting down their arms as they demanded a free hand to retaliate against armed men who attack the forces. Later, police commandos from Moreh also joined in the protest.

Imphal West police commandos were the first to put their arms down and their counterparts from Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Moreh followed suit. The decision to go ahead with the Arms Down came after a crucial meeting at the Imphal West Commando Headquarters.
