PM Modi to visit Assam’s Kaziranga National Park on March 8

PM Modi is scheduled to unveil the over 125-ft-high bronze statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan at Jorhat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to stay at the Kaziranga National Park and undertake a jungle safari during his two-day visit to Assam from March 8, Forest and Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said on Wednesday.

While speaking to media, Patowary said that PM Modi will arrive at Kaziranga in the evening of March 8 and stay the night, before taking a safari inside the park on March 9 in the morning and then leave for Jorhat to attend a series of programmes.

He further added, “We’ve arranged both jeep and elephant safaris inside the park for him.”

“ We had a quick meeting with the Kaziranga forest department to discuss security concerns and finalize all necessary preparations in compliance with the protocols”, he stated.

As per inputs, on March 9, PM Modi is scheduled to unveil the over 125-ft-high bronze statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan at Jorhat.

He is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College, participate in the ‘Griha Pravesh’ (house-warming) ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and address a public meeting at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.

On Tuesday, Patowary visited the Kaziranga National Park and held a series of meetings with senior officials, including Chief Secretary Paban Borthakur and Director General of Police G P Singh, to finalise arrangements for the prime minister’s visit.

On February 15, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited the statue of Lachit Barphukan, located at Ahom general’s ‘maidam’ (memorial), at Lahdoigarh.
