Asked if he could spell out a few names whose names have been finalized, Borah maintained that it would not be right to do so since the AICC is yet

The Assam Congress has shortlisted the names of candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora informed about this and said that the list will be handed over to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge at the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting.

Throwing more light on the development, Bora said, “We have the CEC meeting on February 28th. We have shortlisted the candidates. the CEC meet will be chaired by our president Mallikarjun Kharge, we will hand over the reports to him, as to what our block level committees say, what does the district committees say, the review made by the leaders here, after examining all these reports the decision will be taken.”

Asked if he could spell out a few names whose names have been finalized, Borah maintained that it would not be right to do so since the AICC is yet to take a final call on the matter.

Borah said, “Until the AICC announces, it will be wrong for me to say that the names have been finalized, but I can say that out of the 84 applications filed so far, the list is now becoming short. We are planning to announce the candidate’s name for the Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituency in the beginning of March.”

If sources are to be believed, in about five of the 14 LS seats, the names of Congress candidates are almost final. In each of the remaining nine seats, there are two candidates in the probable list.
