UCM office set on fire: Pressure group blames intelligence failure for arson incident

First Published: 24th February, 2024 20:18 IST

SD: The UCM leadership has questioned the alleged failure of security personnel, as the incident took place barely 100-200 metres from the Lamphel Police Station.

The United Committee Manipur has lashed out at the state government for failing to prevent the arson incident at its office. Organising Secretary of UCM N Shanta termed intelligence failure as the reason fo the incident.

N Shanta also questioned the alleged failure of security personnel, as the incident took place barely 100-200 metres from the Lamphel Police Station.
The UCM leader said, “There were a lot of documents which were preserved since the formation of the United Committee Manipur (UCM). We would like to appeal the Government of Manipur to increase its intelligence because the location where the UCM headquarter is located is just 100-200 metres away from the Lamphel Police Station. After another 100 metres the NIA office is located. So it is very unfortunate that the Manipur state intelligence failed to stop all these things. Even the fire tenders came late and that too there was no fire foam, they were using only water to fight such a devastating fire.”

Significantly, unidentified miscreants set fire to the Office of the United Committee Manipur and also the Macha Leima School at the palace compound late last night.

The UCM office was completely razed to the ground, reducing everything within the office to ash.
