The Assam Cabinet has taken key decisions to protect and promote indigenous languages. The Cabinet has introduced 6 tribal languages- Mising , Rabha, Karbi, Tiwa , Deori and Dimasa- as medium of instruction as per the NEP 2020. The cabinet has also given the approval to include Manipuri as an associate official language in 4 districts of the state. The cabinet has decided to repeal an 89-year-old legislation involving the registration of marriages and divorces by Muslims residing in the state.
