A breakthrough is still awaited to trace and rescue 3 of the 10 abducted coal miners abducted from a remote location along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on February 18.

The Assam Police along with the Arunachal Pradesh Police and the Army has been carrying out massive search and rescue operation, ever since the abduction happened, to find out the miners.

The coal miners were abducted by a heavily armed group of suspected militants from Ulfa (Independent) and NSCN (K-YA) from Finboro area in eastern Arunachal’s Changlang district.

The trio were abducted from an illegal coal mining site known as No.14 mine.

Although 7 of them were released later by the abductors, the whereabouts of the other 3 still remain unknown. Kirli Padu, SP, Changlang confirmed that despite a massive search operation being carried out by the security forces there is absolutely no news on the three abducted persons.

The three abducted persons are Lekhok Bora, Gyan Bahadur Thapa and Chandan Narzary.

If sources are to be believed, security forces have identified Rupom Asom, a hardcore ULFA-I militant, to be the mastermind behind the abduction.

Earlier, there were reports that as many as 9 of the 10 abducted persons have been released. However, Changlang SP Kirli Padu has confirmed that only 7 persons have been released and the remaining 3 are yet to return home.
