Class 12 exams begin in violence-hit Manipur, CM extends best wishes to student

The annual examination of class 11 which is also being conducted on Wednesday under the aegis of CoHSEM at 221 centres.

The class 12 board exams conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur began today. The exams will be held till March 23.

Over 31,000 candidates, including 8,100 in Arts 22,631 in Science and 620 in Commerce Streams are sitting for the exams across 111 examination centres, 36 in the Hill districts and 75 in the valley areas.

Of the total, 22,632 are appearing for the science stream, 8100 for arts and only 620 for commerce.

The annual examination of class 11 which is also being conducted on Wednesday under the aegis of CoHSEM at 221 centres.

This is the first time that the state board exams are being held amid unrest following incidents of ethnic violence, which broke out in May last year.

While extending his wishes to the student appearing for the Higher Secondary exams, Chief Minister Biren Singh made an appeal against holding bandh, blockade or any form of unrest which can hamper the education of the students.

Taking to X, he wrote, “I extend my best wishes to all students appearing for the COHSEM exam. Your dedication and hard work will pave the way for a brighter future. Let’s ensure smooth conduct of exams by refraining from any actions that may disrupt the process.”

Earlier last evening, the 24-hour proposed shutdown in valley districts today, was called off after an ardent appeal made by Chief Minister Biren Singh, in view of the Higher Secondary exams which began today.
