Meghalaya CM and NPP chief Conrad Sangma welcomed the leaders to the NPP in a mega joining event.
Amid the brisk politicking in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya, the National People’s Party (NPP) got a shot in its arm after 2 sitting MDCs of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) from the Congress have joined the NPP today.
Former Sohra MDC Donevan Kharwanlang and a Congress leader too joined the NPP.
While, Batskhem Ryntathiang was a Congress candidate from Mairang constituency in the 2023 Meghalaya Assembly elections, Carnes Sohshang too had tried his luck as a candidate in the same election from the Mawkyrwat constituency.
This indeed is a big setback for the grand old party ahead of the parliamentary elections.
Meghalaya CM and NPP chief Conrad Sangma welcomed the leaders to the NPP in a mega joining event.
Taking to X, CM Sangma said, “As a party, we take pride in welcoming Mr. Batskhmen Ryntathiang, MDC Mairang, Mr Carness Sohshang, MDC Mawkyrwat and Mr. Donevan Kharwanlang, Ex MDC Sohra in the NPP family. We believe that the leaders will enable us to further the objective of our party and ensure that the NPP family continues to grow.”
Meghalaya PHED Minister Marcuise N Marak shared pictures of the joining ceremony in Facebook and said, “In the presence of the National President of NPP, and Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma, and the State President of NPP, and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Prestone Tyngsong, we proudly welcomed Shri Batskhem Ryntathiang, MDC, Mairang, Shri Carness Sohshang, MDC, Mawkyrwat, and Shri Donovan Kharwanlang, EX MDC, Sohra, to the NPP Family at the Party Office, Shillong.
The addition of these new leaders to the party is a testament to their faith in the party and the work it has accomplished for the government and the state.”
