Even after over a year, STGT candidates wait for results, stages protest again

First Published: 19th February, 2024 18:41 IST

The STGT examination was conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) in September 2022.

Massive protests erupted in Agartala as candidates awaiting the results of the 2022 Selection Test For Graduate Teachers (STGT) staged demonstration in front of the Siksha Bhavan against alleged inordinate delay by the government in announcing results.

The STGT examination was conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) in September 2022.

The protestors vented their anger against the Education department, pointing out that more than a year and a half had passed since the test was conducted. However, the results are yet to be announced.

One of the agitators said, “We can see that there is dearth of teachers for Class 9 and 10 across Tripura. The ironny is that in this situation we are still yet to be recruitred despite having necessary qualification. If we are recruited than the situation arising out due to shortage of teachers will also minimize. However, we are yet to get our results for which no recruitment has been made. We are not aware of anything as to what is happening.”

Earlier, in November last year too, irked by the alleged delay in the announcement of the results, the candidates had staged protest in front of the Siksha Bhavan.

In July 2023, the Tripura Government had informed about its intention to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) with Supreme Court to resolve complexities regarding the recruitment of graduate teachers.

The issue stems from the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) examination conducted by the TRBT, which has faced legal hurdles resulting in a prolonged recruitment process of over nine months. The High Court of Tripura dismissed the state government’s review petition concerning the reservation of more than 50 percent of posts for a specific job advertisement.
