Manipur CM Singh announces magisterial probe into Churachandpur violence, FIR against ITLF

CM N Biren on Saturday said that magisterial inquiry was necessary to unearth the hidden agenda behind both incidents.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today said that a magisterial probe will be ordered to probe the Churanchandpur violence and the incident of arms loot at the 5th India Reserve Battalion headquarters at Chingarel in Imphal East.

CM N Biren Singh said that a magisterial inquiry was necessary to unearth the hidden agenda behind both the incidents.

While in Churachandpur, an irate mob had attacked the SP’s office and burnt down the DC office and bungalow of the Deputy Commissioner, in Imphal East arms were looted from the IRB headquarters.

He said that the loss of lives in the arson in Churachandpur and during the attempt to snatch weapons at the Manipur Police Training College, Pangei and 5th IRB, Chingarel were unfortunate and that the government condemns the incidents in the strongest terms.

“When the armed looting incident took place at Chingarel, seven police personnel were immediately suspended for having some doubt in connection with the incident. Similarly, the SP of Churachandpur district has also suspended one police constable after seeing some photos and videos of getting involved with militants. But suspension can be revoked or can go for appeal to higher authority for revocation. Instead of doing this, some directly targeted the SP office and burned down the DC office and the bungalow of the DC of the district”, Singh added.

“What is very unfortunate that four people were killed and many were injured in the incident. Similarly, at MPTC, one people killed and many injured. The government had decided to carry out a magisterial enquiry concerning both cases,”he further stated.

Talking about the incident of burning of DC office the CM said that it indicates that the act was pre-planned and may be related to the state government’s decision to make 1961 the base year for deportation of illegal migrants.

CM N Biren Singh also informed that FIR will be filed against the Churachandpur-based Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum.

He added that the organisation has no right to threaten any governemnt official.
