Lok Sabha polls 2024: BJP will win 18-20 seats in Northeast, says party national VP M Chuba Ao

First Published: 15th February, 2024 12:17 IST

Chuba Ao said that the party is doing its survey as far as fighting the parliamentary elections in Meghalaya is concerned.

With battlelines virtually drawn for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has already expedited its party activities in Northeast-where 25 parliamentary seats are up for grabs.

While, the Saffron Party is in the government as alliance partners in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Sikkim, the party has been able to form governments on its own with fully majority in states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.

Thus, it can be seen that the BJP certainly has a clear edge over its opponents in NE with Opposition almost decimated in most of the NE states.

That gives enough confidence to the party leadership to contest the polls in NE for which it is certain that it will win at least 18 seats in the region.

National Vice President of BJP and in- charge of Meghalaya BJP, Dr. M Chuba Ao has claimed that out of 25 seats in the North-East, the BJP alliance will win 18-20 seats. He said that BJP will leave the only seat in Nagaland for its ally NDPP. He said that BJP will contest elections on all the seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.

“In Northeast there are total 25 seats out of which we are targetting that at least 20 of them should come into our account. But we have done our calculations, there are few seats which we do not know as to what will happen tomorrow. But it is sure that we will win 18 seats. In Nagaland there is 1 seat, in Manipur there are 2, 1 in Mizoram, 2 in Meghalaya, Tripura 2, Arunachal 2 and Assam has 14 seats. So every state has its own view. In Arunachal Pradesh, BJP is contesting in both seats, in Manipur too it is similar. As far as Meghalaya is concerned in present context, we are working out on which will be better for us to contest. We are busy with the survey, but the result has not come out yet. In Nagaland Rajya Sabha seat was given to us, so they should take the LS seat because we are in alliance there,” Chuba Ao said.
