100 body cameras have been procurred by the police for Shillong town which has been distributed at all the 7 traffic branches
East Khasi Hills Traffic Police has introduced an ambitious plan of using cameras to check and prevent traffic violations. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kamakhya Prasad said that around 100 body cameras have been procurred by the police for Shillong town which has been distributed at all the 7 traffic branches.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Prasad said, “ In order to prevent accidents we have taken different measures.
We have asked police officers to wear body cameras so we can record offenders. If any offender is found violating the laws they will be captured in the camera and we will issue the pending challans. We have already obtained 100 body cameras which we have distributed to all the 7 traffic branches in Shillong.”
He further asked for help from drivers and responsible citizens to help and minimize traffic problems and road accidents.
“The body cameras will be worn by the officers as well as the flying squad. They will be moving around checking the violators. We have conducted many awareness programmes to prevent road accidents and have also distributed pamphlets regarding the various rules adopted by the traffic department. We cannot solve the traffic and accident problems all alone, we need the help of like minded people and specially the drivers to remain disciplined,” Prasad added.
The SP was speaking at the sidelines of a road safety awareness programme which was also attended by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah.
