The students are protesting against the lack of a platform to voice their concerns

Students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Sikkim have launched a protest to register their displeasure against what they describe as a gross disregard for students’ welfare and concerns by the institution’s administration.

Things at the institute took a turn for the worse after the recent overhaul of the Training and Placement cell, where the existing team was dismissed and reportedly replaced with individuals close to the Director. The longstanding faculty member responsible for the Training and Placement (TNP) was also abruptly asked to step down, spurring further discontent among the students.

The students are protesting against the lack of a platform to voice their concerns and the administration’s perceived indifference to their future prospects, despite their attempts to communicate the gravity of the situation. Even in the face of harsh sub-zero temperatures, the administration has not addressed the protestors, leaving the students feeling ignored and marginalized.

As the demonstration continues, the students are calling for urgent intervention from higher educational authorities to address their grievances and to establish a dialogue with the administration. They have also sought immediate action to improve their living and educational conditions, and to ensure that their rights and future opportunities are protected.
