The indefinite shutdown that was launched on May 30 paralysing the functioning of more than 80 colleges affiliated to the Manipur University for over two months has yet again resumed
The indefinite shutdown that was launched on May 30 paralysing the functioning of more than 80 colleges affiliated to the Manipur University for over two months has yet again resumed after a fresh order by the HRD Ministry failed to uphold the commitment on which the MUSU, MUSA and MUTA had reached a mutual agreement.
Manipur University Teachers’ Association spokesperson N Debananda said that it has been forced to resume the over 2-month long agitation, as the new order by the Ministry does not mention critical points agreed upon.
The fresh directive by the HRD Ministry mentions that Pandey will have to appear before the fact-finding committee when necessary.
Whereas according to the August 16 Memorandum of Agreement, it was decided that during the period of inquiry and until follow-up action on the inquiry report by the competent authority, AP Pandey will be on leave.
Meanwhile, former Vice Chancellor of Assam’s Tezpur University, MK Choudhury, has been named as a member of the two-member enquiry committee to probe the allegations levelled against Manipur University Vice Chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey in connection to administrative and financial irregularities.
Former Acting Chief justice of High Court of Meghalaya, T Nandakumar Singh, will lead the enquiry. The enquiry committee is likely to submit its report within one month from the date of issue of the order.
The HRD Ministry had issued an order in this regard on August 17, a day after the organisations of the Manipur University, HRD and Manipur Government had signed an Agreement at the end of the three-day meeting on Thursday.
