2024 LS polls: 6% increase in electors in 2024 from 46.5 cr in 2019

Over 96.88 crore electors have been identified as eligible to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission said

Just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls this year, India, known to be the largest democracy in the world has witnessed a spike of 6% in registered voters in 2024 as compared to 2019.

In fact, this is the largest ever electorate to take part in the Parliamentary elections with over 96.88 crore electors identified as eligible to exercise their franchise. The final electoral roll for the 2024 Lok Sabha election includes 96,88,21,926 names. As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) the number of total voters in 2019 was 89.6 crore and the numbers jumped to 96.8 crore this year.

The number of male voters increased this year to 49.7 crore from 46.5 crore in 2019.

The number of female voters increased by 4 crores as the total number has reached 47.1 crore (2024) from 43.1 crore in 2019.

The number of Person with Disabilities (PwD) electors was 45.64 lakh in 2019, the numbers have shot to 88.35 lakh this year. The numbers of electors under the age group of 18-19 years has also increased to 1.85 crore from 1.5 crore in 2019.

Over 2.63 crore new electors have been included in the electoral roll, out of which around 1.41 crore are female electors which surpassed the newly enrolled male voters (1.22 crore) by over 15%.

More than 2 crore young electors, in the 18-19 and 20-29 age groups, have been added to the electoral roll.

After thorough house-to-house verification, names of 1,65,76,654 deceased, permanently shifted, and duplicate electors have been deleted from the electoral rolls. It includes 67,82,642 dead voters, 75,11,128 permanently shifted/absent voters and 22,05,685 duplicate voters.

After a months-long intensive Special Summary Revision 2024 exercise and ahead of the General Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India has published the electoral rolls in all States/UTs across the country with reference to January 1, 2024, as the qualifying date.

“This also included the successful completion of the revision of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, following the delimitation of constituencies. The endeavour, undertaken with meticulous planning, coordination and participation of political parties has yielded noteworthy achievements in terms of inclusivity, health and purity of the electoral rolls,” the EC stated.
