Son of slain Moreh SDPO to be appointed as ASI: Manipur Cabinet

The Cabinet decided to give additional allowance to Manipur Police commandos and security forces deployed in vulnerable and disturbed areas

The Manipur Cabinet at its meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Biren Singh decided to appoint Chingtham Andry Singh, son of slain SDPO of Moreh, Chingtham Anand Singh, as Assistant Sub Inspector in Manipur Police.

“We are concerned about how we lost a decorated officer who died on duty, the SDPO of Moreh, Chingtham Anand Singh. He was an MPS officer. The Cabinet has decided to appoint his son, Chingtham Andry Singh as Assistant Sub Inspector along with the liberalised pension to be given to him,” Manipur Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh said addressing the media in Imphal today regarding the decisions taken by the Cabinet.

The other decisions taken by the Cabinet include inclusion of CAPF, army and air personnel who are not residents of Manipur under the scheme for ex-gratia and financial assistance for violence hit people and Rs 5000 as compensatory allowance for Manipur Police commandos deployed in vulnerable and disturbed areas and a Rs 3000 increment for the state security forces posted in vulnerable and disturbed areas.

“Recognising the plight of farmers due to ongoing violence in the state, the cabinet has recommended 3483 applicants for compensation in the first phase. Rs 18.91 Cr will be distributed to the farmers,” Minister Singh said.

The Cabinet also decided to recruit 742 staff under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan on contractual basis.
The Cabinet also approved the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Assembly that will commence from February 28th. The 4th session of the assembly was held in August 2023.

The Cabinet cleared the Manipur State Commission for Women Rules and the Manipur Names and Places Bill which will be introduced in the upcoming session of the Assembly.

The Cabinet extended the engagement of Village Defence Force personnel for an additional year from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.
