Party MLAs, MDCs as well as leaders of different ranks were present in the meeting

Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma chaired an all important party meeting last night.

Party preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections topped the agenda of the meeting. Party MLAs, MDCs as well as leaders of different ranks were present in the meeting. Presently, a minister in the Conrad Sangma cabinet and the NPP’s candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, Ampareen Lyngdoh was also present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Sangma shared pictures of the meeting on social media and said, “Met with MLAs, MDCs and party leaders to discuss our plans as a party for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As a party we are determined to win the elections and take forward our vision for our state.”

NPP’s Shillong Lok Sabha candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh also posted on X about the details of the meeting. Threadbare discussions were held on the future course of action to garner maximum support.
In her post, Lyngdoh wrote, “Had a productive and engaging meeting with our dedicated grassroots party leaders from all over the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region in Shillong. We had in-depth conversations about the roles and responsibilities in the run-up to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.”

Ampareen Lyngdoh also expressed her gratitude to the party workers for their zeal to faece the elections .
She said, “Grateful for the support and enthusiasm of every grassroots leader who contributed in today’s discussions.”

It may be mentioned that elections in Meghalaya, will be quite interesting to watch since the NPP is going solo. In the Shillong seat, Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) constituent, the BJP too is going solo whereas the UDP and the HSPDP has decided to field a common candidate under the banner of the RDA (Regional Democratic Alliance).

However, Conrad Sangma while attending the Northeast Live Conclave had maintained that his party NPP is very much a part of the NDA and shall continue to be. Conrad Sangma had said, “I am very very clear that even from my late father’s time, we have been working with the NDA. But at the same time I believe that while we work with the NDA and we are partners in the NDA, there is no doubt about that and we are very clear about that also. But while we say that we also believe that the identity of a political party cannot also be diluted, the identity and the aspirations of the people cannot be diluted, so therefore when the election comes it is the right oppurtunity for us to be able to project those aspirations of the people and create that identity and also allow the party to grow.”
