Violence ahead of the Sikkim assembly elections continues in the state.

In a fresh incident of violence, Subash Sotang, a worker of Sikkim Democratict Front (SDF) from Rinchenpong Constituency was allegedly attacked by supporters of ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).

As per inputs, SDF convenor at the constituency level, Sotang was allegedly beaten up with a rod by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) chairman Samdup Sherpa, Nima Sherpa and Bijay Golay. All three are the members of SKM.

During the attack, Subash Sotang has sustained injuries in both of his legs. Currently, he is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Namchi.

It may be mentioned here that earlier last week, Ganesh Rai, the Chief Ministerial candidate of Sikkim’s newly floated Citizen Action Party (CAP), and his supporters were allegedly attacked by miscreants during a rally at Soreng under the Soreng Chakhung Constituency.

Elections for the 32 seats of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly is expected to held in April this year.

CAP has decided to contest in all the 32 assembly seats and one Lok Shaba seat without entering into a coalition with any other political party.

Meanwhile, on January 18, Sikkim BJP president Dilli Ram Thapa also said that the party will contest the upcoming general elections independently without any alliance.

However, Sikkim Rural Development Minister and also the Chief Coordinator of SKM, Sonam Lama recently gave a clear indication that SKM and the BJP might go together in the polls.
