First Published: 29th January, 2024 13:08 IST

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the fire started because of an electrical short circuit

Property worth over Rs 20 crore was gutted in a massive fire that broke out in the New Market (from GNB Road side) area in Tinsukia town on Sunday late evening. Several shops were gutted during the fire, which started at around 10 pm. A dozen fire tenders were used to bring the fire under control. Over 30 shops and several households have been affected by the fire.

Residents blamed the fire brigade for reaching the spot late. One of the residents, speaking to the media, said, “I have been here since the beginning of the fire. When I first called the fire department I found their lines engaged, after that the fire brigades reached the site after 30 minutes. Then it was found that there was no water in the fire brigade. Why was the vehicle brought if there was no water in it?”

Although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the fire started because of an electrical short circuit.
