Manipur: N. Roshibina Devi named Wushu Federation’s female athlete of the year in Sanda category

She beat Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi of Iran and Wu Xiaowei of China to win the honour
Manipur’s Wushu fighter and Arjuna Award awardee Naorem Roshibina Devi brought further laurels to the state after she was named International Wushu Federation’s female athlete of the year in the Sanda category after a month-long public voting.
After the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) Athletes Committee’s preliminary evaluation, 45 candidates from 23 countries and regions entered public voting in various categories, said the IWUF, which announced the results on Tuesday. She beat Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi of Iran and Wu Xiaowei of China to win the honour.
Benbedra Yoan from France was named the male athlete of the year in the Sanda category.
The 23-year-old had won bronze and silver in the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, respectively.
The Manipuri also won a bronze medal in the 2016 World Junior Wushu Championships. She was conferred with the Arjuna Award this year along with fellow Manipuri sportsperson Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu.
Sanda is a Wushu fighting technique that makes use of punching, kicking, throwing, wrestling and defensive techniques.
