Sikkim: SKM accuses Pawan Chamling of being involved in caste-based politics

The SKM also alleged that Chamling seeks help of forces outside the state to stay relevant in politics
As Sikkim is bracing for the Assembly Elections early this year, the political temperature in the Himalayan state is soaring with political parties engaged in high pitch campaigns to woo the voters.
In the meantime, the ruling SKM has mounted its attack on the opposition SDF as well as its supremo and former 5-time Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling.
SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling launched a scathing attack on the former CM and accused him of doing caste-based politics. According to the SKM leader, Chamling has won elections and still kept himself relevant in present day politics by seeking votes in favor of uplifting a certain section of the society.
Jacob Khaling alleged that the SKM chief even tends to forget the community once the purpose is served.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Khaling alleged, “The people of Sikkim know it very well, that whatever I have said against Pawan Chamling is merely not an allegation but is also a reality. Whatever we say is on the basis of truth. When SDF was formed in 1993-94 since then it has won 5 elections, and even today it has only resorted to politics based on caste. They seek vote on grounds that a section of the society has been exploited, but eventually when they come to power they tend to forget those whom they had labelled as exploited. They are futher exploited and the SDF works only for the sake of family so that it is benefitted eveywhere.”
Not only this, the SKM leader also alleged that Pawan Chamling keeps the interest of doing politics in Sikkim with the help of forces outside the state.
Backing his statement, Khaling said, “If one looks at their 25 years regime and 5 years in Opposition they only keep the interest of doing politics in the state with the help of outsiders. Even one of the prominent leaders of his party during 2021-22 had announced in social media that Chamling had received SPG security cover from the Centre and that he is a national leader since such security is not meant for every leader and also published photographs of 2 other individuals with arms. But later it was verified that the armed persons were not SPG personnel, but were identified to be club bouncers brought from Haryana or Himachal Pradesh. They did not have all India licence for using weapons but were certified to use only in Haryana or Himachal Pradesh.
There are lot of other such evidences which prove that he has the interest to do politics in Sikkim with the help of gunmen from outside the state.”
Recently, both the parties were engaged in a war of words over the deepfake row. While the SDF accused SKM of preparing deepfake contents to malign the party and Pawan Chamling, the SKM had rubbished the opposition party’s allegations as baseless.
