Guwahati: HM Shah inaugurates Brahmaputra Riverfront Beautification Project

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Brahmaputra Riverfront Beautification Project in Guwahati’s Panbazar today.

Spearheaded by the Guwahati Smart City Development Limited, the Riverfront Beautification Project is being built at a cost of over Rs 70 crore.

Spanning across 1,200 meters from the old DC Bungalow to Kacharighat, this ambitious project promises to transform the face of the riverfront, create a vibrant and well-designed area that will promote tourism, economic activities, and provide recreational spaces for residents.

The project covers a 6-km riverfront stretch between Rajbhawan (Kharghuli Hill) and the Kamakhya Temple (Nilachal Hill) in the west.

It will have a variety of amenities including Walkway, Cycle track, Jogging track, Viewpoints, Waterstairs, Fountains, Interactive Ponds, Ramps, Stairs, Jetty, Ferry Terminals, Bridges across outflow structures, refreshment points and space dedicated to cultural programmes among others.

These features will not only enhance accessibility but also provide breath-taking views of the majestic Brahmaputra River.

Earlier in the day, HM Shah attended the 60th raising day of Sashastra Seema Bal at the SSB Complex in Tezpur, followed with the historic passing out parade of 2,551 Assam police commandos in Guwahati.

And after attending the passing out parade of the first batch of Assam Police commandos, Union Home Minister Amit Shah released a book titled ‘Assam’s braveheart Lachit Barphukan’ written by Arup Kumar Dutta in kalakshetra Guwahati.

Notably, the book has been translated into 23 regional languages by 23 Sahitya Akademi Award-winning writers.
