Assam: 9-year-old student dies as poorly constructed wall collapses in school

In a tragic incident at Sonari town of Eastern Assam, alleged callousness of the St Joseph’s high school authorities has led to the death of a 9 year old student who sustained serious injuries following the collapse of a toilet wall in the school.

The incident occurred on August 9 when the victim identified as Ranga Rajan Mohan was playing with his classmates in the campus.

It may be mentioned that the student was kept on life support at a local hospital in Sonari and preparations were being made to shift him to New Delhi for better treatment.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo district Viveka Nanda Phukon informed that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe the case.
Additional Deputy Commissioner P. K. Bora will probe the matter.

Principal of St Joseph school in Charaideo Father Vijay Minj said following the incident the boy was immediately taken to a nursing home in Sonari.

The principal added that he had joined just two days before the incident and will now try to improve the existing infrastructure so that such incidents doesn’t recur.

Meanwhile, the body of the boy was later brought to the school from the Dibrugarh hospital where he breathed his last.
