Assam government has informed the Centre about its views on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in regards to the provisions of ‘claims and objections’ in the NRC update process.
The Supreme Court of India, which is monitoring the NRC exercise in Assam, had asked the Centre to prepare an SOP for filing of ‘claims and objections’ in the update process of the citizen document.
The Council of Ministers met at the State Secretariat specifically to discuss the NRC issue. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The complete draft of the NRC, which was published on July 30, included names of 2.89 crore citizens.
Over 40 lakh applicants did not figure in the final NRC draft list, the applicants can now file claims through their respective NRC Seva Kendras. There are also provisions for objections and corrections.
