The Assamese music industry has lost a gem after renowned music director Bhupen Uzir passed away on Tuesday night.

As per inputs, Bhupen Uzir breathed his last at around 10 pm at a private hospital in Guwahati.

The noted music director had been fighting a chronic illness for the last few months. He was admitted to the hospital on January 6 after his health condition deteriorated.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uzir’s friends and well-wishers have condoled his demise and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

Taking to X, CM Sarma conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Uzir and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul.

CM Sarma said that his demise is an irreparable loss to the cultural field.

Bhupen Uzir has long been a musician whose quest for melody has made an extraordinary contribution to Assamese culture.

Recently he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ‘Rengoni Music Awards 2023’ in Guwahati.
