An explosion took place in the heart of Shillong this evening. The blast occurred outside Delhi Mistan Bhandar in Shillong’s commercial hub Police Bazar.

Soon after the news of the blast, the bomb squad rushed to the spot. Police are yet to ascertain the nature of the blast. East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger who also rushed to the blast site informed that no one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma condemned the blast in Shillong’s commercial hub Police Bazar.

Taking to Twitter, Sangma termed the blast as an attempt to disrupt peace in Shillong. CM Sangma warned that the perpetrators will not be spared.

“Strongly condemn the blast at Police Bazar, Shillong this evening. An attempt to disrupt peace and bring harm is nothing but a cowardly act. Perpetrators will not be spared. We will ensure peace prevails in the State,” tweeted the Meghalaya Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the police are trying to determine the nature and intensity of the blast. Refusing to divulge much he said that it is difficult to say whether the blast was triggered by an IED.

As per reports, no one had been hurt during the blasts.
