At a time when demand for a separate Khasi Jaintia state is being raised in certain quarters in Meghalaya, an organisation from the Garo Hills, which calls itself the Achik Holistic Awakening Movement, is pressing for an additional Secretariat and Winter Assembly in Tura.
In a release issued yesterday, the organisation said that the state government is yet to implement a winter assembly and an additional secretariat in Tura, which it said was agreed upon when the state was carved out of Assam.
The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement added that it will very soon conduct a signature campaign soon to press for a winter assembly and an additional secretariat in Tura. It also warned of full-scale agitation on the issue in coming weeks.
The organization, in its release, also urged the present government not to entertain the political stunts and remarks to scrap policies that are in place.
The organisation was pointing towards maintaining the status quo in the reservation policy.
