Assam Meghalaya CMs today apprised Union Home Minister Amit Shah of the outcomes of discussions held between the states to resolve the border dispute amicably. This was informed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet right after the meet.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on the inter-state border issue between states. Both CMs handed over the reports of their regional committees on border issue during the meet.

It may be mentioned that the state Cabinets of both Assam and Meghalaya gave approval to the reports of the respective regional committees yesterday for resolving the inter-state border dispute in the six areas of difference taken up in the first phase.

The big breakthrough came ahead of Meghalaya’s 50th statehood celebrations which is tomorrow. Prior to the Cabinet approval, the reports of the regional committees were discussed with political parties, pressure groups and student organisations of both states.

It may be mentioned that Assam and Meghalaya CMs have worked on war footing to resolve the decades-old inter-state border dispute and the efforts have shown results in the past few weeks. CMs of both states met at least on 5 occasions to push for quick resolution of the lingering dispute. Both states have also shown an immense political will to sort out the matter once and for all.
