Denouncing the killing of two aides of Agriculture Minister Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh termed the attack a handiwork of vested interest groups. He also assured them that the government would not rest until befitting punishment was given to the culprits.

He was speaking to the media after visiting the families of the deceased aides. Two close aides of Manipur Agriculture Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh, identified as Abujam John and Abujam Tomba, were killed in a suspected instance of pre-poll violence, in the Samurou area of Wangoi Assembly Constituency in Imphal West District on the night of January 9th.
According to sources, Abujam John died on the spot in Samurou while Tomba, a Manipur police personnel, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital late Sunday night. An investigation into the case is already underway.

Notably, this is the second instance of suspected pre-poll violence in Manipur after the Heirok shooting, which killed 20-year-old N. Rohit and severely injured his father last December.
