Manipur elections 2022: State to go for polls on February 27 and March 3

The Election Commission of India today announced the dates of the assembly polls for Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand.

Assembly elections in Manipur for a total of 60 Assembly constituencies will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will be held on February 27 while voting for the second phase will be on March 3.

The Election Commission of India, meanwhile, has banned all forms of physical campaigning till January 15.

Candidates and parties have also been urged to conduct campaigns virtually as far as possible.

“No roadshow, bike rally, procession, no physical rallies shall be allowed to take place till 15th  of January,’ clarified ECI.

The ECI will then review the Covid scenario and issue further directives for the poll-bound states.

Candidates can also file their nominations online taking into account the Covid situation. Victory processions have also been banned.

The poll expenditure for candidates in Manipur has been capped at Rs 28 lakh.

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will take place in seven phases from February 10 to March 10 while Punjab, UP, Goa and Uttarakhand will have a single day affair on February 14.

Meanwhile, with the announcement of the poll dates, the model code of conduct has come into force.
