Meghalaya minister in-charge of the Excise Department, Kyrmen Shylla, has vouched for home delivery of alcohol for eligible people in the state if lockdown is re-imposed.

Shylla said that about 250-300 crores of income was generated by home delivery of liquor during the lockdown imposed after the second wave of COVID-19 hit the state. But, he stressed that the health and security of the people are the topmost priorities.

Shylla admitted that the revenue of the state is affected when there is a lockdown.

Meanwhile, Shylla said that it is very important for the people to abide by the government’s protocols to help curb and prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially when the entire nation is seeing a surge of the Omicron variant.

Shylla added that the government has to find a balance between the safety and security of the people and income generation so that everything runs smoothly. He hoped people would comply and cooperate with the government, follow the measures and work as a team.

Shylla also said that the department might reconsider home delivery of liquor to generate income if the lockdown is enforced in the state.
