Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today chaired a key meeting of all the SPs of the state in Eastern Assam’s Duliajan. The main motto of the conference is to strengthen the policing system from the core.

The first day of the meeting ended at 4 am in the morning of January 4th after 18 hour long deliberations which saw detailed presentations by the SPs and additional SPs

Earlier addressing the conference, Chief Minister Sarma empahsised on maintaining transparency and said that police personnel must not be soft towards criminals. Sarma also made it clear that corruption and alleged harassment of the public in police stations will not be tolerated.  Sarma said that the police have to be zero tolerant towards criminals.

Chief Minister Sarma said that while the Assam Police has shown exemplary output in the last six months, it still needs to toughen its investigation procedures when dealing with criminals.

Additionally, the Chief Minister also stated that there must be no place for corruption in the policing system. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed all SPs to ensure that commoners are not harassed in the name of issuing accident reports, filing cases besides others. Sarma said that all cops must abstain from seeking money to facilitate issues involving common people.

Worth mentioning here, Chief Minister Sarma had chaired the first SPs conference in Kaziranga around June last year. Following the conference, Chief Minister Sarma had announced that such meetings will be held every 6 months to check the progress of decisions taken.
