The Assam government has decided to impose a night curfew with effect from tomorrow amid the OMICRON scare. The night curfew will be in effect from 11:30 pm till 6 am. However, restrictions will be lifted for a day on December 31.
According to the new SOP all business establishments will have to pull down their shutters by 10:30 pm. Meanwhile, cinema halls, restaurants, malls, and eateries will be allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity.
Wearing of masks besides following COVID appropriate protocols has also been made mandatory as per the new SOP. This has been informed by state health minister Keshab Mahanta.
The new SOP also imposes a fine of Rs 1000 on those who are caught without mask or spitting in public.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had ruled out any possibility of a complete lockdown in the near future.
To combat the rising Omicron threat in India the centre has already dispatched teams to states which are reporting high instances of Omicron infections are lagging behind in vaccinations.
