The Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association (SAHILCA), Kangpokpi District Chiefs Joint Coordination Committee on Land Matters (KDCJCCLM), and Asian Highway Land Affected Villages Chiefs/Chairman Association (AHLAVCCA) have served a five days ultimatum to the State Government over the Asian Highway expansion issue.
The associations have threatened to impose a 48 hour total shutdown from December 7 if the state government fails to respond within five days time.
Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association Speaker, Lunthang Haokip informed that during a joint meeting the group minutely deliberated over the state government’s attitude towards the Asian Highway expansion from Gamgiphai to Kalapahar and considered it to be step-motherly upon the affected victims.
Haokip also said the group has repeatedly urged the state government to give out due compensations to those affected by the expansion. He lamented the fact that their demand for early implementation of the highway expansion project has fallen on deaf ears and nothing has been initiated to date. He warned that since the joint meeting the Civil bodies have decided to serve an ultimatum to the state government till December 7, and if the State Government fails to respond, the group will impose a 48 hour total shutdown the day the deadline ends.
