Niraj Das aka ‘Kola Lora’ the prime accused in the brutal murder case of AASU leader Animesh Bhuyan, is dead.
The accused was hit by a police escort vehicle at Cinamara Khariya Chuk while trying to escape police custody.
Apparently, he was hit as he leaped out of a police escort car in which he was riding.
He was taken to the Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) immediately. Later he was declared dead at the hospital.
Three police personnel have also sustained injuries in the incident.
Niraj Das, who was also believed to be involved in the drugs trade was taken for identifying certain spots from where the illicit cartels were operating, meanwhile, he tried to mislead the police by taking them through another route in an attempt to escape police custody.
Speaking on the incident Jorhat OC said, “During the investigation, Niraj revealed his identity as a drug peddler and stated that he would assist us in identifying spots used for peddling. Following that, he was taken to identify those locations. He attempted to flee police custody by leaping from the police escort van. Meanwhile, a police escort car approaching from behind lost control and hit Niraj from behind.”
Niraj Das and 13 other individuals were taken into the custody of Assam Police in connection with the murder of AASU functionary Animesh Bhuyan.
Animesh who was a secretary at the Brahmaputra Anchalik Samiti of All Assam Students Union’s Golgahat District was brutally beaten to death on the streets of Jorhat by Niraj and his associates.
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has condemned the brutal incident and has assured that the guilty will not be spared and justice will be delivered soon.
